VARBANOV FIBER ART RESEARCH CENTER
Objectives: Founded in August 1986, by the famous Bulgarian artist, Professor Maryn Ivanov Varbanov, who is one of the most influential figures in the history of Chinese and international contemporary art, the center become immersed in avant-garde practices and education in fibre as a form of contemporary art. Varbanov Fiber Art Research Center tries to reactivate Chinese traditions, build up a new art language and art form, rich in our humanistic culture, supporting the establishment and development of further understanding of art, nature and society in our Art Academy.

COLOR RESEARCH CENTER
Objectives: This center focuses on revelling phenomenon and related issues of colour, and on proposing effective solutions from both theoretic and practical perspectives. Researches range from fundamental colour theory, construction of standard colour system, expressiveness of colour art, history of colour culture, colour aesthetics, fashion colour, colour marketing, colour design approach, colour construction and management and various aspects.

CONNOISSEURSHIP CENTER FOR TRADITIONAL CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY AND PAINTING
Objectives: As a new humanities discipline, the center is envisaged to systematical study of the evaluation of art. New-style connoisseurs are integrated with interdisciplinary competence to meet the need of the art market.

Objectives: Upholding its position as a vanguard in tertiary calligraphy education, the center strives to become a core in the international exchanges of modern calligraphy by enhancing dialogues between calligraphy and contemporary art.

Objectives: The center aims to raise standards in the research of Chinese Art History by engaging in focused study of its foundational documents and principles and by translating good works of art-history and valuable historiographical findings from world wide.

CENTER FOR CULTURAL DISPLAY
Objectives: In answer to the global development of visual culture, the center conducts its research in both visual culture and exhibition curation, with corporation with art sponsors, critics, artists and scholars, in order to analyse modes of art production and consumption.

RESEARCH CENTER FOR ART HISTORY
Objectives: It is the task of the center to systematically study history of the Western art and the methodology, and take it as references for the further research on the development of Chinese art. The center translates famous works of Western art history, in order to study the cultural background of its historical development, especially the interaction of art history with general history and history of ideas; to verify the feasibility of applying Western theory to the history of Chinese art; and to
introduce the fine traditions of Chinese theory to the world.

INSTITUTE FOR PHENOMENOLOGY OF ART
Objectives: The institute has attracted important thinkers and artists to study on the intersection of philosophy, poetics and art. The institute focuses on phenomenology and art creation, in order to formalise the methodology of contemporary painting and the academic theory of fine arts.

CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURAL STUDIES
Objectives: With a concept of experimentation, the Center is dedicated to local culture and vernacular features in the practice of architectonics. It places great emphasis on the dual consideration of the architectural connotation and return of craftsmanship. It empirically explores the interdisciplinary field of experimental architecture.

Objectives: This center provides academic guidance and theoretical support of ancient Chinese calligraphy and seal creation for the teaching of calligraphy and seals; and further, to promote traditional Chinese culture and enhance the academic exchange and cooperation both domestic and abroad.

Objectives: The main tasks of this center are to study and systematise the basic theories on cultural relics; to explore and establish the educational system of cultural relics in an art school; and to participate in the reification of the tactics and norms so as to protect and manage cultural relics.

Objectives: To establish an integrated instructional system, this center strives to construct an professional platform for research and creation via material exploration and application of new concepts.

Objectives: The Institute is devoted to the research, management and presentation of the collections of the Western modern design history focusing on the Bauhaus.The institute’s research and routine operation also include the operation of the Bauhaus museum for the collections, preparation for the establishment of the China Design Museum, design scenography, training researchers in this field, products development based on the demands of the manufacturing industry in Zhejiang Province and the cultural and creative industries in China.

FASHION & TEXTILE RESEARCH CENTER (FTRC)
Objectives: Fashion & Textile Research Center(FTRC) of CAA was founded in 2007,which was born in the process of the strategic cooperation with Hangzhou Municipal Government and the developing of urban brand. As a platform focusing on the development of the national industry, design professionals, design education and research, FTRC will fully use the advantage of CAA on the area of humanities and history, disciplines distribution, international resources, teaching resources to become the sharing platform for global fashion and textile resources, global post-doctoral research station for the fashion and textile, communication platform for designers, research platform for Chinese silk and women fashion trends, research platform for the national, provincial and municipal projects on industry, study and research, to build a strong international team of teachers to carry out a full range of services for the local fashion and textile industry, corporate brand, personnel training with core values.

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE
Objectives: Industrial Design and Research Institute was founded in 2011, with the department of Industrial Design being the main part. It attracts advanced talents in the design field and builds an exchange platform of industrial design and creative culture, taking advantage of the brand image and talent base of China Academy of Art to raise industrial clusters with capability of independent innovation for Zhejiang Province, and lay a firm foundation in the independent research ability of manufacture industry for Zhejiang Province, which also contributes to the ascendant academic position of China Academy of Art in industrial design disciplines.

URBAN-RURAL DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH INSTITUTE
Objectives：Urban-Rural Development Research Institute was founded in the fourth strategic cooperation conference organised by Hangzhou City and China Academy of Art in May, 2011. The institute establishes its office inside the China Academy of Art and Professor Cao Zengjie is appointed the director of the institute. It gathers together outstanding experts in urban-rural development and cultural creativity and sets up several departments, including Planning and Creativity Center, Brand Strategy Center, Industrial Development Center and Communication Research Center. Relying on the academic background and resources of China Academy of Art, the institute follows the example of Hangzhou urban-rural construction and development and the concept of collaborative innovation, and is deeply involved in promoting the sustainable and healthy development of China urbanisation. It mainly focuses on the development and research, brand planning, conceptual design, industrial analysis and communication of famous historic and cultural cities, historic conservation areas, culture creative industry parks, fabulous towns and beautiful villages.

INTERACTIVE ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE
Objectives: Interactive Arts and Technology Institute of CAA is based on the foundation of digital graphics studies, by following the trend of the advanced interactive art and technology in the world, and directed by the software engineering theory, this center try to explore the connection between the digital art and technology; enhance artistic expression; and become the academic platform of developing, applying and teaching digital products. It funded in Sep of 2011. Its principle is: directed by the software engineering theory and technical management theory, base on the Chinese creative industry, and attempt to build up a holistic theoretical system that cross disciplines include arts and technologies.

Objectives: The institute will import, develop and fully grasp 3D audio and video technologies (the dual 3D technologies), especially 3D audio technology; strengthen relationships between the related enterprises and experts at home and abroad, to create a platform for interaction, communication and cooperation, and promote the application and development of the dual 3D technologies in the country. The mission of the institute is to realise the widespread application and promotion of the dual 3D technologies, and attempt to lead the new sound revolution, which will bring great changes and huge economic benefits to cultural undertakings and cultural industries in China.

Objectives: China Research Institute for Culture and Design in CAA is aimed at inheriting the essence of traditional culture through the creativity of design. It is directed at art of living so as to devote its efforts to activate the Chinese traditional culture in the contemporary era, deduce the new visual reading aesthetic style which suits both refined and popular tastes, and provide Chinese outstanding culture derivative works of art which are rich in spiritual connotation for home and abroad.
