This year’s annual Autumn Leaves Art Festival of the China Academy of Art began on Dec 11 and will last until Dec 31. If you visit Nanshan Road, you will find several interesting sculptures created with fallen leaves. One of the sculptures is made of golden sycamore leaves and is over three meters high. It is named "Astronaut-Tengkong,” and is located at the entrance of the art academy. The students at the China Academy of Art have been building leaf sculptures for 15 years out of the fallen leaves on Nanshan Road that pile up in the area every year.
Chen Xiao, who is in charge of the Autumn Leaf Art Festival, explained that several groups of fallen leaf sculptures exhibited this year were selected from over one hundred solicited proposals from around the country. These sculptures are all creatively designed with the theme of the "future.” Students at the China Academy of Art have used the leaves to create artistic sculptures during this time of year for over ten years. This is no longer a self-entertaining activity for the students, but has become a public art display for everyone to participate in.
