Scenario System Design
Using complex built environments as practical vehicles, this course explores how AIoT and data-driven design reconstruct human-environment interactions. Grounded in cutting-edge theories such as Actor-Network Theory (ANT), it guides students through full-cycle design practice from discovery, conceptualization, organization, to evolution, producing comprehensive solutions encompassing smart hardware prototypes, business models, and experience blueprints.

Color Planning and Design Methodology Research
This course takes an interdisciplinary approach, integrating color science, design aesthetics, cultural anthropology, and marketing communication theory. It systematically covers color-space systems, the cultural contexts of color, and cultural-and-creative methodologies, while developing competencies in field research, competitive analysis, and strategic color proposal development. Students engage in color planning practice through real-world projects spanning urban-rural cultural tourism, intangible cultural heritage revitalization, and China-chic brand development, thereby bridging the full workflow from research through design to transformation.

Design Thinking Joint Course
Jointly offered by China Academy of Art (CAA) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) since 2013, this course breaks down disciplinary barriers between art & design, and science & technology institutions. It combines the CAA’s strengths in design aesthetics and spatial perception with HKUST’s technical advantages in computer science and data science, guiding students from both universities to collaboratively address complex social problems. It endows technology with humanistic warmth and empowers artistic practice through technological empowerment.
