Through this course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the principles and patterns of audiovisual language in film and television, and systematically master the theoretical and technical methods for producing and analysing the audiovisual elements of film and television works. Through the study and analysis of the compositional elements and narrative techniques of animated shots, as well as training in the creation of storyboards based on open prompts, students will develop a profound understanding of the concepts behind animated storyboard creation and the animation production workflow, and will be able to apply these skills proficiently in their own artistic animation practice.

During the course, students will collaborate to produce an original animated short film. This course not only lays a solid foundation for the final-year project but also guides students to engage with real-world projects at an early stage, honing their professional collaboration skills and creative execution through original practical work, whilst gaining end-to-end experience spanning the entire process from concept development to the final production.

·Creative Use of Materials in Storytelling
This material narrative course aims to interpret the diverse textural expressions of animation by drawing upon the material essence of its visual language, to systematise creative principles, and to broaden the unique artistic horizons of material animation. The course is dedicated to breaking free from the constraints of conventional formal design, avoiding the rigid repetition of technical processes, and exploring new formal languages and modes of expression. Through the study of allegorical thinking in animation, it deepens our understanding of the states of matter, movement and emotion. Building upon the heritage of traditional Chinese humanistic spirit, it utilises the graphic language of animation and material interpretation to convey profound cross-cultural emotions and ideas.

·Experimental Comic Creation
Through creative exercises, exploration and classroom discussions, this course guides students in creating medium-length comic stories drawn from their own life experiences. Beginning with an exploration of the history of comics and art history, the course examines visual composition and its relationship to narrative. Students systematically study the methods of four-panel comic creation and scriptwriting techniques, as well as how to develop personal experiences into complete stories, whilst mastering methods for refining and deepening thematic content. The course focuses on developing text-image narrative skills, guiding students to extract elements from observation, build characters, and understand the integrity of the short story form through four-panel comic practice.

·The Fundamentals of Picture Book Narrative
This student-centred, creation-oriented course aims to stimulate students’ interest in learning and their desire to create, foster a spirit of innovation, and integrate the spirit of Chinese humanistic spirit into creative practice. The course familiarises students with the history and classics of picture books, enables them to understand the various categories, genres, target audiences and relevant requirements, and provides a systematic understanding of the basic processes involved in picture book creation and production. Through systematic training, students will gain a preliminary grasp of the compositional elements of visual expression and be able to independently create picture book works that demonstrate their artistic skills and creative design.

·RISO Illustration Creation
This course takes current social issues and traditional culture as its creative themes. It requires students to master digital drawing techniques and software operation, whilst guiding them to integrate post-production techniques into the pre-production phase, thereby breaking away from conventional approaches to drawing. Through this course, students gain an understanding of the current state of RISO technology both domestically and internationally, develop a mindset for new forms of artistic expression, and establish their own personal artistic language. At the technical level, students will become proficient in the RISO printing process, acquire the ability to analyse, authenticate and reproduce works, and be able to select appropriate styles for different themes whilst demonstrating creativity in design and colour. The course is dedicated to fostering an innovative mindset, stimulating creativity, and enabling students to experience entirely new forms of artistic expression through this new medium.
