·Ceramic Tableware Design

A core course for third-year ceramics majors and a National First-Class Course, this course traces its origins back to the year of 1960, when it was first established by Deng Bai as a course in ceramic design. Upholding the educational tenet of “nurturing aesthetics in three dimensions and integrating knowledge with practice”, the course takes material craftsmanship as its foundation and forming techniques as the creative approach, delivering both theoretical instruction and hands-on practice. It equips students with systematic knowledge covering the entire workflow of ware modeling, material preparation and firing, as well as comprehensive coordination capabilities for ceramic product design. The course conducts in-depth research on traditional Chinese ceramic creation theories, hosts regular international workshop programs, and has won numerous provincial and ministerial-level teaching and research awards.

 ·Ceramic Sculpture

A signature core course within the ceramics program, Ceramic Sculpture traces its pedagogical roots back to the 1950s and serves as a benchmark for the reform of contemporary ceramic art education in China. The curriculum establishes a tiered teaching system consisting of basic clay modeling and progressive Ceramic Sculpture I/II/III courses, forming a complete teaching loop from elementary clay modeling training to independent contemporary ceramic art creation. It guides students to develop contemporary ceramic artistic thinking, conducts in-depth research on traditional Chinese handcrafted ceramics, and continuously refines its curriculum to build a research and teaching system for ceramic sculpture that combines solid traditional roots with pioneering experimental spirit.
