Programme Overview

The Industrial Design Programme (080205), classified under the engineering discipline of Mechanical Engineering, is guided by art-and-technology intelligence and grounded in design humanities, with a focus on intelligent hardware and smart mobility. Through real projects in artificial intelligence, the Industrial Internet of Things, mobility and new energy, students integrate computing, mechanical engineering, electronics, design management and business models. The programme develops design insight, systems integration, technological translation, engineering collaboration and industrial entrepreneurship, preparing graduates for leadership roles such as Chief Design Officer. Career pathways include intelligent products and equipment, automotive and future mobility, robotics, human-machine interaction, design engineering, innovation strategy and design management—serving the broader goals of intelligent manufacturing and industrial upgrading.

Curriculum Overview

·Curriculum Structure

Year 1 builds foundations in design drawing, engineering graphics, creative structures, industrial design history, advanced mathematics, design culture, representation, form and physics. Year 2 develops an integrated design-engineering-computing methodology through Design Thinking and Innovation, Materials and Technology, Creative Programming, Human Factors, Design Engineering and Systems, and Intelligent Design Technologies and Methods. In Year 3, project-based modules in Intelligent Manufacturing and Smart Mobility include intelligent making, vehicle styling, smart hardware and prototype interaction, digital modelling and clay, transport engineering, and smart cockpit and human-machine interaction, reinforced by industry workshops. Year 4 integrates the curriculum through graduation practice, proposal development, the final design project and written report.
