• Freehand Live Sketching
A foundational course for mastering freehand figure painting, also known as "xieyi". Rooted in freehand line drawing, it uses ink freehand (xieyi) as the primary mode of live sketching, and trains brushwork, ink application, color rendering and water control. Students learn expressive figurative techniques to capture figures' temperament and forms with precision, while integrating modeling drills, ink refinement and painting theories to build a complete system for freehand figure painting.

• Meticulous Live Sketching
A mandatory foundational course for figure painting majors. It provides four core modules: line-based modeling, brush-and-ink outlining, color application, and compositional design, also known as "gongbi". It equips students with solid technical skills for creation and innovation while cultivating aesthetic judgment of ancient and modern meticulous figure paintings, ultimately achieving the educational goal of transmitting, promoting, and advancing this distinctive art form.

• Copying of Meticulous Color Painting
This course takes representative heavy-color (also known as "gongbi zhongcai") figure paintings from the Tang and Song dynasties as core models for study. It sorts out the developmental context and aesthetic essence of traditional meticulous heavy-color figure painting, strengthens students' foundation in classical art, fosters their cultural confidence, and enables them to innovate while carrying forward fine traditions. The course systematically introduces the material properties of Chinese painting pigments, silk, rice paper and writing brushes, and teaches a full set of heavy-color techniques including fine outlining and layered color washing. Students will fully grasp the traditional logic of color application, build a solid foundation for meticulous figure creation, and expand their creative horizons in contemporary humanistic art.

Students Works:

• Field Practice
A core course in figure painting majors. Students conduct field research in rural areas, museums and cultural sites to master rapid sketching of figures and scenes and collect authentic life materials. Real-life observations help students perceive life, fuel creative composition, turn life observations into creative inspiration, and ultimately integrate lived experience into finished artworks.

Students' Works:

• Creation
The capstone course that shapes personal artistic identities. Students complete full-cycle large-scale creation, from theme selection, material preparation and draft refinement to final production. Students are expected to draw on solid modeling and ink foundations, select techniques they have mastered, explore the integration of tradition and innovation, and bridge tradition and modern expression, exploring humanistic themes via contemporary artistic approaches.
