This course is grounded in the perspective of cultural history and employs interdisciplinary research methods to cover the evolution of Chinese art from the Neolithic period to the modern era. Through the integration of historical textual analysis, close examination of specific works, discussion of research methodologies, and supplementary audio-visual materials, the course aims to present both the disciplinary traditions and the latest scholarly developments in an accessible yet rigorous manner. Students will acquire a solid command of the foundational knowledge of Chinese art history while also developing a broad vision and a high-level starting point, thereby preparing them for subsequent research-oriented learning.

·World Art History
This course adopts a combination of lectures, seminars, and object-based teaching to systematically introduce students to the history of World art, with a primary focus on European art. As a form of canonical education, the course emphasises familiarising students with the universally recognized masterpieces and masters of art history. At the same time, it guides students - from the perspectives of criticism and reception - to understand the historical process through which the Western canon was born and received. In addition to transmitting foundational professional knowledge, the course also places strong emphasis on cultivating students' capacity for critical thinking and their sense of historical consciousness.

·Introduction to Visual Culture
This course spans multiple fields including art history, cultural studies, and media criticism. Premised on breaking down the hierarchical distinction between "high" and "low" culture, it emphasises the openness of the visual culture field and the contemporary relevance of its problematics. Through teaching the fundamental theories, key conceptual frameworks, and corresponding research methods of visual culture studies, the course focuses on cultivating students' professional competence in cultural studies and art criticism centred on the core concept of "visuality." It also aims to strengthen students' awareness of contemporary issues, media literacy, and historical consciousness.

·Art Historiography
This course is designed to foreground the history of the discipline, guiding graduate students to understand the major historical conceptions of art and the diverse methodological approaches to art research. On this foundation, it introduces the most important primary and secondary sources in both Chinese and Western languages, placing special emphasis on excavating Chinese art historical texts. The course aims to cultivate students' grasp of the disciplinary essence, to develop their awareness of research questions and to continuously refine their own modes of thinking and writing in the field of visual art history. Oriented toward the historical site of Chinese art, the course creatively integrates classical academic resources from both ancient and modern, Eastern and Western traditions, and seeks to bring them to the global scholarly community. In doing so, it aspires to contribute new ideas and methodological dimensions to the broader field of world art studies, and ultimately to reconstruct a theory of artistic creation, appreciation, and criticism grounded in the "philosophy of heart-mind and nature".

·Fundamentals of Antique Study
This course covers epigraphy, art archaeology, Buddhist iconography, and Daoist and Buddhist figural studies; textual criticism and collation of related documents; as well as museum and cultural relic studies. It places special emphasis on introducing the nomenclature, forms, and classification methods of antiquities through the integrated use of archaeological materials and classical texts. The course adheres to a balanced approach that values both theoretical instruction and practical training. Through close reading of canonical texts, it seeks to establish a solid theoretical foundation, while exploring the spiritual and cultural ethos of classical antiquity through the lens of traditional Chinese principles of material culture and making (zaowu).
