On June 29, the "Gather Great Wisdom to Shape the Future of Intelligent Manufacturing—Special Exhibition on Design Intelligence and High Quality Development", hosted by the China Academy of Art (CAA), opened at the National Museum of China in Beijing.
This exhibition is based upon a show of the results of the Design Intelligence Award (DIA) hosted by CAA. The DIA, initiated in 2014 by Li Qiang, the then Governor of Zhejiang Province, has been moving toward its goal of "becoming a world-class industrial design award" over the past decade. Anchored in the intelligent manufacturing motifs of "humanistic intelligence, life wisdom, science-art intelligence, and industrial think tank", the DIA focuses on the deep integration of critical, disruptive technological advances with humanistic care, with a mission to identify and apply new technologies, products, and models to lead the modernization and transformation of industries. It has rapidly evolved into China's most globally influential comprehensive innovation design award, providing unceasing momentum for developing new quality productive forces and establishing a robust innovation platform for high-quality development.
The exhibition showcases the select cases and cutting-edge technological design works from the DIA over the past decade, as a pioneering comprehensive review of China's advancements in design intelligence and design evaluation, to meet the latest requirements on new quality productive forces and elucidate the deep implications of high-quality development.
The exhibition features over 180 outstanding products in the field of design intelligence, centered around the theme of "Design Intelligence and High-Quality Development." They are presented through four thematic sections: "Artificial Intelligence", "Life Health", "Green Development", and "Better Life", along with four scenarios: "Embodied Intelligence", "Brain Space", "Low-Altitude Economy", and "Smart Kitchen Appliances". They represent China's significant achievements in high-quality development and intelligent transformation in the new era and serve as vivid examples or typical cases for the exploration and development of new quality productive forces.
Gao Shiming, President of CAA, said, "The DIA is more than just an award, as it is establishing a global industrial think tank for the innovative development of the current digital economy and smart society, providing 'design intelligence' for the iterative innovation of 'Made in China'. We always believe that the focus of design is on 'people,' not 'objects'. With the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology, human society is advancing toward intelligent digitization while experiencing significant transformations in lifestyles and thinking patterns. Artificial Intelligence is evolving from a simple computer aid to a complex system with intelligent judgment and autonomous action competence, increasingly resembling the human brain.
This section presents the developments of brain-inspired intelligence technology in various fields through three sub-themes: "Industrial Hub", "Aerospace Intelligent Control", "Immersive Intelligence", and one scenario: "Embodied Intelligence".
As large models for new industrial bases, exhibits such as the domestically developed cognitive large model "iFLYTEK Spark × Huawei Ascend", Honeywell's intelligent and efficient dense storage solution, and Alibaba Cloud's holographic intelligent road network are catalyzing super businesses, lighthouse factories, and smart cities by injecting new vitality into content production and professional R&D.
In the domain of aerospace intelligent control, representative works like the WJ-1B high-resolution intelligent optical satellite of Star Vision Hangzhou, QYSEA's FIFISH V-EVO underwater UAV, and Hikvision's lurking robot demonstrate the unlimited possibilities of AI applications from collective intelligence expansion to deep-sea and space exploration to substantially expand the boundaries of human cognition of the world.
Meanwhile, Tencent game technology-backed digital cultural heritage innovation solutions, Lenovo's ThinkVision 27 3D display, Lingban Technology's Rokid MAX+Station smart glasses suite, and Dunhuang Academy's "Exploring Dunhuang" digital Dunhuang virtual reality deep roaming—Mogao Cave No. 285, among others, reveal breakthroughs in virtual reality and augmented reality technologies in immersive intelligence, opening up new possibilities of industrial metaverse and digital cultural tourism.
"Embodied Intelligence", as a frontier in the development of AI, represents the concrete integration of the latest AI technologies. Within this scenario, Fourier Intelligence showcases its GR-1, a domestically developed general humanoid robot that can be commercially mass-produced, revealing the future intelligent and wonderful human-machine coupling to the world.
Humans are the objective of development, not the means of development. Life health underpins human reproduction and survival, the inheritance and innovation of civilization, and the advancement and evolution of society.
This section focuses on product innovation in healthcare through three sub-themes: "Functional Extension", "Life Maintenance", "Health Management", and one scenario: "Brain Space".
The exhibits, including Mindray Medical's BeneHeart DX: Flexible and Burden-Reducing Intelligent Emergency Solution, and Yuwell Medical's household multi-parameter life sign detection device, cover comprehensive solutions ranging from professional medical care to daily health, showcasing the latest advances in biotech and design intelligence in life maintenance and human capability enhancement.
Furthermore, Alibaba Health's Alibaba Health Font-braille phonetic font library, Aeonmed's AG70 anesthesia workstation, and Dahua Technology's ultra-high-definition endoscope system explore innovative applications of design intelligence in vulnerable care, life rescue, and efficient medical equipment.
Focusing on the development journey of neuroscience and the future applications of brain-machine interfaces, the "Brain Space" scenario features works represented by BrainCo's BrainRobotics intelligent bionic hand. It presents future healthcare trends and highlights the positive role of design intelligence in defining new human limits, which is of great significance to human health and wellbeing.
Green development is an essential part of high-quality development, and new quality productive forces are inherently green productivity. In the context of ecological civilization construction transcending geopolitical boundaries and involving the fate of humankind, there are challenges in coordinating the relationships among high-quality development, ecological civilization construction, and new quality productive forces to activate green new quality efficiencies. Design intelligence provides rich and valuable cases to help address these challenges.
This section zeroes in on concrete practices of design intelligence in fostering green development across fields through three sub-themes: "Low Carbon Travel", "Clean Energy", "Green New Materials", and one scenario: "Low-Altitude Economy".
SAIC Group's MG Cyberster pure electric concept sports car and CRRC's new-generation power-intensive medium EMUs demonstrate the developments of new energy vehicles, China's motor car manufacturing strength, clean energy conversion solutions, and exploration of green design of materials, showcasing infinite possibilities in achieving circular development through tech advances.
Simultaneously, design works such as Zero Gravity's manned eVTOL aircraft ZG-ONE, NEOLIX's commercial unmanned vehicle, and I-KINGTEC's Lotus Lantern–Fully Autonomous UAV Inspection System construct a multidimensional operational scenario of "low-altitude economy", encompassing drone technology, low-altitude airspace management systems, precision navigation and positioning, AI, and efficient energy management, opening up a new vision for future mobility and logistics.
These innovative designs not only showcase Chinese wisdom in addressing global environmental challenges but also underscore the positive significance of design intelligence in promoting harmony between man and nature.
Driven by rapid technological progress and continuous design innovation, people's lifestyles are being redefined in an unprecedented manner. Amidst the transformation, design intelligence is a key force in enhancing the convenience and intelligence level of daily life as it substantially contributes to bridging the gap between the increasingly growing need for a better life and the insufficient and unbalanced development in China.
This section showcases a new life vision of human-machine harmonious coexistence shaped by tech innovations through three sub-themes: "Optimized Daily Life", "Kitchen Revolution", "Future Cleanliness", and one scenario: "Smart Kitchen Appliances".
Exhibits range from the widespread adoption of intelligent systems to the application of personalized devices, including Lenovo Group's Micro-LED transparent screen laptop concept, SenseTime Technology's SenseRobot AI chess-playing robot, Future Mind's PongBot M-ONE smart ping-pong ball serving robot, as well as diverse experiences in smart kitchen appliances and extensive applications of intelligent robots and automated devices in cleaning and maintenance, such as Tineco's Floor One Space Station and UDEER's AI130 commercial patrol and sweeping robot. These products not only provide intelligent, efficient, and sustainable solutions for modern life but also enhance life quality through innovative human-machine interactions, allowing people to live a happier and more quality life. They represent design innovations for meeting people's pursuit of a better life, indicating future-oriented lifestyles.
Notably, China's leader in premium kitchen appliances, Fotile, brought its latest smart kitchen solution—Fotile Yueying Pro to the exhibit. By injecting design intelligence into product innovation, Fotile has created a high-end kitchen scenario that embodies Eastern aesthetics. This innovative product lineup meets people's expectations and imaginations for a wonderful and cozy "future home."
The "Gather Great Wisdom to Shape the Future of Intelligent Manufacturing—Special Exhibition on Design Intelligence and High Quality Development" has sent out a message that the deep integration of technological innovations and design intelligence, especially cutting-edge innovations, disruptive technologies, and advanced manufacturing technologies represented by new-generation IT, is playing a key role in AI application, life health, green development, and life betterment. This is increasingly becoming a consensus across all sectors of society.

Alongside the exhibition, a seminar titled "Ten-Year Journey and Future Development of the DIA Award" took place to review the development journey and outlook of this prestigious award.
