The core academic event of the 95th anniversary of CAA is "IWV2023: Mutual Learning of Civilizations", which considers human civilization as a total entity which transcends the limitations of space and time. It takes the 12 artistic and humanistic directions from the specialized disciplines of CAA:  Time - Landscape - Design - Media - Object - Writing - Image - Liberal Arts - Science Fiction - Garden - Art - Knowledge, as the counterparts to the 12 major humanistic directions of natural and social sciences: Life - Basin - Society - Technology - Belief - Culture - History - Nation - Relics - Time - Education - World, so as to form 12 interdisciplinary teams. Throughout the summer, the 12 teams traveled around the world in search of the history of civilization and anthropological meaning behind art at 12 core sites, including "Dinosaur Tomb in Lufeng - Amazon Jungle - Silicon Valley in San Francisco - Icelandic Caldera - Leonardo da Vinci's Residence in Milan - Workers' Club in Moscow - Petroglyphs of Dalmatian - Yangjialing of Yan'an - Katsura Rikyu Shrine of Japan, etc. From November 10th to 13th, the 12 teams will regroup in Liangzhu, launching the film actions via "Reports from the World" forum and the "Starplex" exhibition in the newly-opened Liangzhu Campus, sharing and exchanging what they have asked and thought around the world. This serial events will turn the Liangzhu Campus into an art reactor of civilization mutual learning.

"IWV2023: Mutual Learning of Civilizations" inherits the structure of "IWV2020: Dialogue of Worldviews" in its focus on the unity of learning and the universal issues. In contrast to the natural science and philosophical orientations of "IWV2020", "IWV2023” focuses more on social science and humanities issues, especially on the recent trend toward the division of knowledge into different disciplines, and the difficulty in returning to the ontology because of the limitations of the branches themselves. One of the “universal questions" raised by CAA, as the core production site inter-discipline and art, is precisely "what is the unifying way of knowledge in different disciplines", as well as "civilization" itself as a method and the curatorial structure in the "mutual learning of civilizations". "Wen(文) is the intersections of heaven and earth, Ming(明) is the enlightenment of Wen in all directions". Mutual Learning of Civilizations is to take humanistic thoughts as the "heaven", and social actions as the "earth", so as to construct mutual learnings between thoughts and actions in all directions. Further, in the interdisciplinary and inter-temporal "inter-views", the core questions of "what is art in a human-machine symbiotic civilization" and "how to construct a knowledge of engagement in an art school" will be explored.

Inter(World)View (IWV) is a long-term plan of actions of CAA, which aims to connect various disciplines internally, expand the conceptual and practical fields of art, and establish new links externally to build a high-capacity circle of international academic partners, so that "future colleagues" can join in the common vision of CAA with a view to think about the origin of art education in the perspective of the world's civilization - not only to trace the origin, but also to focus on the present, sense the pulse of development and the potential trend of human civilization in the 21st century.

Starplex, Total Exhibition of IWV2023: Mutual Learning of Civilizations

Civilization is not a castle in the air, but the human spirit exists in the daily presence including clothing, food, housing, transportation, and written traditions. In a broad sense, "cultural relics" encompass all creations that embody the essence of human civilization, from research on civilizations to historical documents, further to equally vibrant folk narratives. The "Starplex" project aims to project the content the hundreds of locations in the Liangzhu Campus, so as to compose a comprehensive all-round exhibition that ignites sparks and fosters mutual reference through "hiding the world in the world" as a counterpart to the 360-degree "Civilization cycle".

Total Catalog, Academic Forum of IWV2023: Mutual Learning of Civilizations

"Mutual Learning of Civilizations" regards human civilization as a total entity that transcends the limitations of time and space, and takes the discipline system of CAA as a platform to integrate the "micro-knowledge system" within the school, such as "Time - Shanshui - Design - Media - Object - Writing - Image - Liberal Arts - Sci-Fi - Garden - Art - Knowledge", with the "macro-knowledge system" beyond the school such as "Life - Basin - Society - Technology - Belief - Culture - History - Nation - Relics - Time - Education - World" so as to form 12 groups with corresponding macro-micro themes between the two cycles of totality. The Total Catalog is a conceptual community that emerges from this mutual learning of the micro and macro knowledge systems. Twelve teams were paired into six groups of dialogues. It takes "Knowledge - World" as the Tao, "Art – Education" as the Way, forming a knowledge network that consists of themes of Astronomy Calendar, Historical Geography, Cosmicism, Social Design, Cybernetics, Grand Narrative, Total Theatre, General Architecture, Gesamtkunst, and Integrated Archeology. It is not only the academic discernment of different disciplines, but also the pursuit of the origin of the world knowledge, meanwhile a response to the "Atlas of World Knowledge" released in "IWV2020".

Roadside Picnic, Dialogues with Practitioners

"Media-Technology" Sub-forum of IWV 2023: Mutual Learning of Civilizations

Night - Sailing - Boat

"Garden-Time" Sub-forum of IWV2023: Mutual Learning of Civilizations

If the "Total Catalog" is a roundtable discussion of 12 groups of thematic thinkers on Mutual Learning of Civilizations, the "Roadside Picnic" is a distributed forum of its practitioners, with the leaders of the 12 film actions gathering teachers and students through the launched questions, in the form of open-air classes in 12 camping tents on site in Liangzhu campus. The high-energy scene of "Roadside Picnic" in the original science fiction, here points to the "Forest Roads / Holzwege" of the human thoughts, which has both the road of right views and the road of prejudices, together constituting the "crossing paths" of countless actors learning from each other and writing together. "Picnic" is a small group dinner in this maze, it is also the  imageries of the "starplexes of civilization" throughout the scene, re-established  by the activists who interviewed the world with the 12 fields, which point to the knowledge community presented by the "Total Catalog" from the "rest of the world".

Seeking Vkhutemas, Launch of Series on Historical vant-garde &

"Design-Society" Sub-forum of IWV2023: Mutual Learning of Civilizations

As an important institution that influenced the development of modern design in the 20th century, VKhUTEMAS was also the most important embodyment of the USSR avant-garde. Although it had been almost forgotten over the past half century, its contemporaries formed creative social proposals and vision of the future on cosmic mapping, which continue to influence the development of design all over the world in a subtle way.

The theme of the forum is "Seeking VKhUTEMAS". With the exhibition of "Historical Avant-Garde Original Documents", the "Historical Avant-Garde" book series plan is released. On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of China Academy of Art, this event will create a dialogue with VKhUTEMAS from more than 100 years ago, exploring the creative contributions and inspirations of VKhUTEMAS with the avant-garde as its core in the history, present and future through the perspective of current Chinese and foreign scholars.

Seeking Eisenstein"Image-History" Sub-forum of IWV2023: Mutual Learning of Civilizations

When movie was established as an art form, its techniques and expression had a profound impact on all the artistic disciplines of the 20th century, established a foundational sensory-perceptual experience for human beings. The release of the movie Battleship Potemkin (1925) changed the way artists and writers think about the world significantly, and montage became a philosophy, a mindset, a dialectic, and an ideological device. Therefore, it is of great significance to systematically seek, record, explore and study Eisenstein, the creator of Battleship Potemkin. How to understand the worldview significance which brought by montage as a way of thinking on a philosophical level? This forum focuses on how the concepts, technologies and expression of video deal with and narrate history; as well as how to construct collective emotions and politic narratives through video, back to the beginning of the movie, tracking the origin, walking alongside the greatest minds, and then exploring how new image technologies narrate history.
