Prof. Lai graduated from the Affiliated High School of the China Academy of Art at the age of 21 and from the Figurative Expression Studio of the Department of Oil Painting of CAA at the age of 25. Later, he served as an instructor at the Fine Arts School of Hangzhou Normal University from 1999 to 2005. After he graduated from Xu Mangyao Studio of Fine Arts College of Shanghai Normal University with a master's degree in 2005, he was transferred to the Department of Fine Arts of the School of Foundation Studies of CAA as an instructor. Two years later, he completed his study at the Quan Shanshi Oil Painting Advanced Innovation Class of CAA. After another two years, he was transferred to the Second Studio of the Department of Oil Painting of CAA as an instructor.
