Lei Ziren started his studies at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in 1989 and earned his BA, MA and PhD from CAFA. He became a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Art History, Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University in 2008. He started working at Renmin University of China School of Arts in 2012, as Deputy Director of the Fine Art Department, Director of the Institute of Oriental Art, Professor, and Doctoral Advisor. Prof. Lei was involved in teaching and management at the Graduate School, CAFA. He also served as a journalist and editor at China Modern Economic Publishing House (formerly China Audit Publishing House), Director of Jiangxi Academy of Fine Art, and Director of Jiangxi Provincial Art Museum. He is a Council Member of Jiangxi Provincial Museum, Academic Board Member of Jiangxi Provincial Art Museum, and a Council Member of the 11th Council of Jiangxi Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Concurrently, he is Chair of Jiangxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang (RCCK). He is also a first-class artist, a member of the China Artists Association, and a panelist for China National Arts Fund. Prof. Lei has been included in the "Thousand Talents Program" of Jiangxi Province. He joined the China Academy of Art in 2023.
