Yu Chenxing was admitted to the Department of Sculpture of Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (today's China Academy of Art) at the age of 18, graduated from the Department of Sculpture of CAA with a bachelor's degree in 1997 and with a master's degree in 2001 and was appointed as an instructor at the department in the same year. He once served as a visiting scholar at the Chelsea College of Art and Design of the University of the Arts London in 2010, and Deputy Director and Director of the Department of Sculpture of the School of Sculpture and Public Art of CAA.
