Zhang graduated from the Affiliated High school of Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in 1992, then received his bachelor's degree from the Department of Oil Painting at CAA in 1997. After 5 years he graduated from the Fine Arts Program as a postgraduate in 2002, and received his Master's degree from the department of Printmaking at CAA in 2011.
