I'm Asato Nanami from Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. I graduated from the Department of Calligraphy of CAA this year.

I started learning calligraphy when I was in the second grade. I enjoy handwriting, and I have been taking calligraphy courses. I chose calligraphy as my major at the university. I attended a lecture given by a CAA teacher who came to Japan as a visiting professor, which paved the way for my studying in China. I spent half a year studying abroad before becoming a CAA post-graduate student.

I focused on the expression of different lines during my study in Japan; yet CAA students zero in on calligraphy based on classics. So in CAA, I have studied classic works while exploring my calligraphy style.

My graduation work is based on moya shike (cliff inscription). It aims to showcase calligraphy that is simple, vigorous, and rooted in Chinese nature. I want to highlight the rough lines of the moya stele and the stereoscopy of the inscription on stones.

During the creative process, my instructors were very supportive of my ideas and encouraged me to explore my style. I am grateful for the help from my instructors, fellow students, and the school. My study journey at CAA is truly unforgettable.
