Chen Shuyi, a graduate from the Jewelry Design major of CAA’s School of Crafts created the graduation project Intricate Weave, which won a gold award.

This piece utilizes the traditional and intricate filigree technique, weaving silver threads in a single method to create delicate spaces that are either soft or rigid. The artist aims for the piece to evoke a serene and harmonious space externally and internally with its simple visual effect, conveying the philosophy of The Way And Material In One and exploring the Chinese aesthetics of complexity versus simplicity. Through meticulous craftsmanship and clever design, the artist combines complex and minimalist aesthetic concepts, endowing the work with the intricacy of traditional craftsmanship and the elegance of modern art.

Intricate Weave is not only a continuation of traditional filigree art but also an exploration of its innovation and development. By skillfully employing weaving techniques, the artist showcases the diverse expressiveness of the material in different states, imbuing the piece with profound cultural and artistic value. Each silver thread and every woven node in the piece reflects the artists respect for traditional craftsmanship and a deep understanding of aesthetic principles. Through this work, the artist conveys a pursuit of inner tranquility and external harmony, while also prompting contemplation on the relationship between tradition and modernity, and the balance of complexity and simplicity.
