Zheng Yuanye, a graduate from CAA’s School of Painting, has been honored with a gold award for his graduation artwork, “Beyond Form · Poetic Landscape”. This work profoundly reflects his unique contemplation of geographical culture and his deep insight into the natural beauty and cultural heritage of his hometown, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province.
“Beyond Form · Poetic Landscape” primarily uses materials such as manuscripts and calligraphy papers, which are rolled into tubular shapes and assembled through a collage technique. Drawing on the brushstroke style of Tang Dynasty(AD 618-907) calligrapher Huaisu, the work employs a black, white, and gray color palette to construct dense rectangular blocks. Through a sophisticated arrangement of points, lines, and planes, Zheng Yuanye has cut and reassembled information carriers of Wenzhou’s majestic Yandang Mountain scenery and cultural elements like poetry, songs, and newspapers. The piece transforms this information into artistic brushstrokes, aiming to present his profound understanding of contemporary social order and reflect the deep impact and internal realization of natural environmental changes on life.
The work not only reflects the contemporary youth’s unique understanding of nature and social order but also showcases the artist’s deep reflection on these themes. This innovative approach, which blends traditional culture with modern artistic forms, fully demonstrates Zheng’s respect for cultural heritage and his keen concern for contemporary societal issues.
