At 2024 CAA Graduation Exhibition, Tan Jianing, a graduate from the Figurative Sculpture Studio of CAA’s School of Sculpture and Public Art, showcased her artwork titled Liu Wenxi: Art for the People, and won the gold award.

Tan Jianings piece skillfully integrates Liu Wenxi, the founding artist of the School of Loess Pictures, with the people of northern Shaanxi, aiming to demonstrate that Liu Wenxi, both in thought and emotion, is deeply connected with the laboring people living on the Loess Plateau. Liu meticulously emphasized the use of sketch materials in his creative process, capturing his immediate impressions of the people and objects on the Loess Plateau. He deeply rooted his work in reality, maintained a close connection with the people, and infused his brushstrokes with an inherent rustic charm.

Liu Wenxi: Art for the People is not only a tribute to Lius art but also a profound interpretation of his artistic philosophy. This sculpture depicts the scene of Liu sketching, surrounded by the attentive villagers of northern Shaanxi. The sculpture vividly captures this moment, presenting Lius deep affection and boundless respect for ordinary people. Through this creative method, the graduate not only recreates Lius artistic style but also highlights the close relationship between her artistic creation and the lives of the people.

This piece is not only a continuation of Lius artistic spirit but also a powerful exploration of the integration of contemporary art and peoples lives. Within the context of modern art, Tans artwork demonstrates the harmonious unity of art and life, emphasizing the eternal theme that art originates from life and serves the people.
