RISD Board of Trustees Chair Michael Spalter Visits CAA

On the morning of March 18, President Xu Jiang met with RISD Board of Trustees Chair Michael Spalterand his wife Anne Spalter on our Nanshan Campus.
The exchange between RISD and CAA date back to more than ten years ago. President Xu Jiang recalled his first experience visiting RISD 13 years ago. The visiting at that time left deep impressions on him and what he saw at RISD influenced and inspired our later academic ideology, way of teaching and even later campus constructions. For example, RISD has different buildings for different departments, separate Foundation Section, and an excellent RISD museum. Xu thanked RISD again for awarding him inaugural Presidential Honor when he and Prof. Wang Shu visited RISD in 2012.
Chair Michael Spalter forwarded RISD’s new President Rosanne Somerson’s regards to President Xu. He also recalled the exchange activities between RISD and CAA, and hoped that in the future our two visionary academies can have many more collaborations based on current exchanges. President Xu agreed with him and suggested we think of some potential cooperative programs in more detail. In addition, Chair Michael Spalter invited Xu to RISD next year.
Director of Architecture Department Prof. Wang Shu, Ms. Lu Wenyu, and Director of School of Intermedia Art, Prof. Gao Shiming, and three professors from RISD who are currently teaching in CAA under exchange program also met with Chair Michael Spalter and Anne Spalter on the Nanshan Campus.
