On the morning of June 7, 2015, led by Heiner Wemhöner (the CEO of Wemhöener Manufacturing), MARTa’s curator Roland Nachtigaller, Tim Kahler (Mayor of Herford), collector Daisy Cheng, and Hartmut Braun (editor of Neue Westfalische Newspaper), a group of more than 65 German entrepreneurs, artists and curators visited the China Academy of Art.
Mr. Wemhöner is an experienced collector of international contemporary art, including painting, sculpture, video and photography, and the works of Chinese artists occupy a great portion of his collection. He also is a promotor of Chinese art in Germany.
In our Graduation Week, the temporary exhibition hall of Bauhaus held an exhibition titled “Constructing Object: Featuring Teaching and Renovations of Bauhaus.” The exhibition took the works of the Bauhaus masters and students as its main line, and showcased the pre-Bauhaus and international style designs, as well as the featured courses, workshop structure, and the portfolio of the masters and students, with which to drew a timeline to reveal the context and history of Bauhaus as an academy. The exhibition also demonstrated how and why the collection came to China.
On the group’s visit of the temporary exhibition hall of the China Design Museum, the CAA thoroughly introduced its Bauhaus collection. During the conversation, the group showed great interest in the valuable collection and the outstanding way in which they were showcased. They highly appreciated the complete, systematic and exquisite collection representing modern design of the West, and were amazed at seeing these familiar designs in China.
