The Affiliated High School was founded in the year of 1929, then called “The High School of the National Art College”. In 1954, it changed its name to The Affiliated High School of the East China Campus of Central Academy of Fine Arts, then to The Affiliated High School of Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in 1958 and finally to its current name in 1993. The high school was the earliest base for art education in China and one of the most prestigious secondary art schools in China. Since its establishment, more than 1000 students have graduated, many of whom have become world-famous artists, such as Wang Chaowen, Wang Shikuo, Dong Xiwen, Li Qun, Yan Han, Xiao Chuanjiu, Luo Gongliu, Wu Guanzhong, Zhu Dequn, Zhao Wuji, etc. The school aims to train excellent potential students for higher art colleges with professional skills, good cultural accomplishments, creative and pioneering consciousness.

It pays special attention to the cultivation and elevation of students' traditional Chinese art and comprehensive artistic skills. On the one hand, the school offers courses in painting, (color) sketching, calligraphy, art appreciation and professional pre-courses (including Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, film and television fundamentals and Design Basics), etc. On the other hand, the high school also offers students with normal cultural courses, of which the teaching schedule is the same as regular high schools’. The school enrolls junior high school graduates, all previous years’ graduates as well as overseas students with a three-year educational length. Currently the number of the students is stable at around 450. There are 45 teachers, including 14 professors and associate professors.
