The School of Design & Innovation is a pedagogical experimental zone established by the China Academy of Art in response to future social development. Centered on an innovative design discipline that integrates art, technology, and business, the School draws on global design education resources to drive integrated innovation that responds to social and industrial needs, constructing a new Bauhaus and Vkhutemas in the era of big data and smart media.


Strong Academic Standing

The School offers two National First-Class Undergraduate Programs—Art and Technology, and Digital Media Art—as well as master's and doctoral programs (both academic and professional degrees) focused on innovative design research. It is dedicated to cultivating leading talents with interdisciplinary research capabilities who can spearhead industrial innovation, iteration, and transformation.


The Art and Technology major has been ranked 1st nationally in the CUAA Chinese University Rankings for four consecutive years, and has been ranked 2nd nationally in the Best Chinese Majors Ranking. The Digital Media Art major has been ranked 6th nationally in the Best Chinese Majors Ranking.


Cutting-Edge Research Directions

The School of Design & Innovation has established a series of research institutes: Institute of Intelligence & Creation, Institute of Media & Interaction Design, and Institute of Computational Arts. Key focus areas include Bio-design, Embodied Intelligence, Hyper-Vision, Digital Entertainment, Digital Performance, Complex Systems, and Kinetic Design.


In addition, the Research Institute of Hanzi Design & Innovation focuses on Hanzi visual development in the age of artificial intelligence.


International Platforms and Teaching Modules

As a pilot unit of the CAA's Internationalization Initiative, the School offers international teaching modules such as PLAYSHOP Trans-boundary Curriculum in Design and Joint Creation Camp. It also hosts major exhibitions with global reach:

Career Outcomes
