
The School of Animation and Games is committed to nurturing high-calibre animation directors, interactive media and game designers, and illustrators and comic artists. The School offers degree programmes in Animation, and Game Art and Design, and has established a comprehensive talent development system spanning undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Upholding the philosophy of drawing deeply on China’s cultural roots whilst innovatively telling Chinese stories for the new era, the School focuses on fostering students’ awareness of their local culture and a global creative perspective, striving to cultivate versatile and innovative artistic talent equipped for the digital industries.
The School boasts substantial platform resources, including the West Lake International Animation Biennale, the Game Twin Cities Annual Conference, the National Trend Art Research Institute, and the Joint Laboratory for Digital Art and Virtual Technology, which provide robust support for teaching, research and industry-academia collaboration. Leveraging the core strengths of the National Animation Teaching and Research Base, the School focuses on cutting-edge fields such as contemporary animation creation, digital game design and Eastern visual storytelling, comprehensively expanding students’ professional practice and original creative pathways. Works by both staff and students have frequently won awards at various domestic and international film festivals and design competitions, with the School’s industry influence and professional recognition continuing to grow. The School is committed to deep integration between industry and education, and to mutual empowerment through teaching and research, comprehensively honing students’ original design capabilities, technical skills and artistic creativity. Graduates from previous cohorts have established themselves in key sectors such as film and television production, game development and internet-based new media.
