
The School of Marxism at the China Academy of Art was established in May 2019. Its predecessor was the Teaching and Research Center for Ideological and Political Theory under the former Department of Social Sciences and Ideological Education. Its longer academic lineage can be traced back to the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Group founded in the mid-1950s.
The School upholds Marxism as its guiding philosophy. It focuses on studying, comprehending, and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Its mission is to cultivate artistic talent who embody the core attributes of Vigor, Reverence, Integration, and Vision.
The School follows eight fundamental principles for ideological and political education. These emphasize balancing political orientation with academic rigor, value guidance with knowledge dissemination, and theory with practice. This framework drives continuous curriculum reform and pedagogical innovation.
The School specializes in research on Marxist theory of literature and art. It integrates the university’s rich artistic resources into its teaching. By linking courses with field practice and summer social programs, it has developed high - quality signature practical courses. This has shaped a distinctive teaching model tailored for higher art education.
Academic Structure &Faculty
The School comprises five teaching and research sections:
· Introduction to the Basic Principles of Marxism
· Introduction to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era
· Introduction to Mao Zedong Thought and the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics
· Outline of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History
· Ideology, Morality and Rule of Law
· It provides compulsory ideological and political theory education for all undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. The School currently has 35 faculty members, including 34 full - time instructors. The team includes 2 professors and 12 associate professors.
