Programme Overview
Rooted in Cai Yuanpei's vision of aesthetic education and Pan Tianshou's academic tenet of "Innovation from Tradition", the Landscape Painting honors classical Chinese art while embracing global perspectives. It trains students to observe nature with authenticity and to create work that speaks to the contemporary world — producing artists who are both technically accomplished and deeply grounded in their cultural heritage, and who are equipped to carry Chinese landscape art across the globe and establish its unique place in world art.

Curriculum Structure
Year 1 lays foundations through basic landscape techniques, Song-dynasty landscape miniatures, line drawing, calligraphy and art theory, helping students grasp the fundamental principles of landscape composition and the nuances of brush-and-ink expression, while building ink literacy. Years 2-3 focus on core modules including Song/Yuan landscape copying, creation and field practice, cultivating scenic composition, sketching and expressive skills to connect natural scenery with inner artistic conception. Year 4 centers on graduation creation and thesis writing, with Ming/Qing copying and color courses empowering students to revitalize traditional aesthetics through personal experience and humanistic insight.
