The School of Painting takes "Technique and Method — Rethinking Painting Methodology in the Era of Grand Painting" as its core research orientation, and commits itself to establishing a contemporary system of "Oriental Painting Studies". The school offers the National First-Class Undergraduate Program in Painting across undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels, with a focus on four research streams: oil painting in the Era of Grand Painting, printmaking in the post-print era, murals amid urbanization, and integrated painting across expanded media.
The School houses the Research Center for Thematic Fine Art Creation of National Significance, as well as laboratories for oil painting, printmaking, and mural painting. It also runs international exhibition and exchange platforms including the INTER-YOUTH International Young Artists Exhibition, CAA International Printmaking Triennial, and “Skill and Methods”the International Alliance of Academic Painting Education (IAAPE). These platforms provide an open environment for teaching, academic research and industry-university collaboration. Rooted in the profound, enduring artistic heritage of China Academy of Art and equipped with forward-looking vision for the image age, the School follows three core practical pathways: reigniting critical reflection on painting methodology, constructing an interdisciplinary integrated teaching system, and fostering an innovative, pioneering framework for international artistic dialogue. It consistently facilitates the inheritance, evolution and long-term advancement of Chinese painting art.
